2008 Targa Schools

New for 2008

Based on the feedback we have received from our past students, we have expanded the format of the school to two full days. This allows us to provide a greater level of detail and practice that will help you maximize your Targa experience.

21-22 June 2008 Mosport DDT, Ontario
11-12 September 2008 Bell Island, Newfoundland

Test and Tune

Open Road will be hosting a test and tune day on 12 September 2008 on Bell Island. This is an excellent way for Targa teams to check last minute car set ups and team communications. The day will consist of 2.5hrs of open stage time and a practice rally with full Targa stage conditions including: timing crews, marshalls. The cost of the test and tune is $225. Introduction

The Targa school is specifically tailored to the Targa event. The school focuses on the unique aspects of Targa competition including preparation, driving style, navigation and safety.

Instruction focuses on techniques unique to the roads of Newfoundland as well as integrating the vehicle, driver and navigator into a cohesive team.
Instruction is provided by Targa veterans, circuit racers and rally competitors.

Day 1 focuses on basic navigation, team work and communications. Day 1 also includes a TSD rally using the same format as the Targa Touring category.

Day 2 focuses on the details: high speed driving techniques; advanced navigation and strategy.

Students successfully completing the course will qualify for a Targa Competition license.

"Learn from those who have gone before: you're going to make mistakes, but make some new ones - don't make the same ones we all did. You're investing a lot of money in the event and your car - protect that investment by taking this course. It could be the best few hundred dollars you'll spend."
Jim Kenzie, Toronto Star and Motoring

Targa Co Driver's Guide

This guide was written by Mark Williams. It contains essential knowledge for your successful completion of the Targa Competition. Please download this document and study it prior to the school. (Note: The 2008 Targa event uses slightly different timing controls than outlined in this guide, however it is still a must read for all new competitors)

Targa School Handbook

This guide was compiled by Glen Clarke and Evan Gamblin. It is a reasonably comprehensive knowledge base for the Targa competition.

Please feel free to download this manual and distribute it to other Targa Competitors and enthusiasts. In return for the use of the information we ask that you provide a small donation to our favourite charity. Roger's House. Donation information can be found on page 3 of the handbook.
